SHENZHEN, China, Sep 9, 2022 -- Shenzhen Capchem Technology Co. Ltd. (Capchem), Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd (Nippon Shokubai) and Toyota Tsusho (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (Toyotsu Shanghai) have reached a joint venture agreement on investment in Hunan Fluopont New Materials Co., Ltd. (Hunan Fluopont), a subsidiary of Capchem, which is planning to expand production facility of Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI), a key component of battery cells for electric vehicles. After this transaction is completed, Capchem will still be the controlling shareholder of Hunan Fluopont.
LiFSI has been used in electrolyte to improve lithium-ion battery’s performance over a wide temperature range. Therefore, commercializing LiFSI has been an important step for Capchem’s vertical integration and sustainable development strategy. Capchem had successfully operated a LiFSI pilot plant, and its controlled subsidiary Hunan Fluopont’s 1st phase LiFSI production facility is currently at commissioning stage.
Combining each party’s advantages in technology and market position, this strategic cooperation will enable Capchem, Nippon Shokubai and Toyota Tsusho’s to form a win-win alliance. In the next few years, Capchem, Nippon Shokubai and Toyota Tsusho plan to expand Hunan Fluopont’s LiFSI production capacity to over 10,000 MT/year, to support rapidly growing EV and energy growing market.
